F A L L I N G

March 2021

My name was drawn out of the fish bowl at a virtual DanceChance event with DanceWorks Chicago, which gave me one month to create a dance film and an audience to present it to! I wanted to collaborate to make something I was proud of (instead of my phone filming me in my basement like the pandemic had left the rest of my dance experiences that year). So reaching out to artists and friends that I look up to, I was able to spend one day in this beautiful location creating and F A L L I N G in love with dance again.

Homepage Video (Full)

September 2020

When I first made my website, I included a strip of silent video at the bottom of my page to incorporate some movement into the page. Now that video is 5 years old, and although I still love the design concept, the video itself needed some updating!

Filmed by Abby Koskinas.

BOUNCE! - Maleek Final

July 2020

During the BOUNCE! Competition Virtual Summer Intensive, I was given the chance to take two weeks full of virtual classes from the most amazing faculty. After being cooped up during quarantine and dancing in my basement (where I couldn't fully raise my arms over my head) I was so thankful for my home studio, Karyn Kelly Dance Center, allowing me to use the space to take classes. This was one of our final virtual pieces, choreographed by Maleek Washington.

BOUNCE! Chris Final

July 2020

Also during the BOUNCE! Intensive (read about that in the video caption above) was the opportunity to take classes from and rehearsals with Christopher Ralph. His classes were a highlight of my days, and I loved challenging my qualities with his movement. This whole intensive was a highlight of my summer/quarantine to be able to connect with such amazing artists, and take classes from choreographers I otherwise wouldn't be in a studio with! Dancers, take advantage of these virtual opportunities available! Trust me!

Intertwine (Working Title)

2018

This piece came out of a phrase that choreographer Jennifer Golonka was interested in building upon. While Golonka was home in Buffalo, she contacted myself and two other collegiate dancers to create this piece on, pulling from her intertwining life in Buffalo, NY and the rest of the world.

Jennifer Golonka Choreography

2017

This video was filmed during summer rehearsals I was lucky enough to be involved in with Jennifer Golonka. Jennifer invited myself and two other Buffalo-based dancers to work through choreography. This is from a rehearsal and is not the final work.

Dance in the Gutter

2017

This piece, created by Todd Eckert, was performed in the OSU Dance Department's Winter Concert in February 2017. This work was part of Eckert's MFA research. I performed in this piece along with six other department members.

One Layer Deeper, One Memory Further

2015

A piece choreographed by Yin Yue on attendees of the Perry Mansfield Performing Arts School & Camp Summer Intensive. This piece features my first duet, which was possibly the most exciting thing that could happen to me as a high school dancer trying to keep up with the collegiate dancers.

RING

2019

This was my final Dance Film made as a student in the OSU Department of Dance taking Dance Film 2. The assignment was fully open ended to create whatever we wanted, and getting to film and edit some hauntingly bad a** boss babes was more fun than I anticipated.

As I Am

2018

A documentary-style-inspired dance film that was simply a joy to make. Working with friends will always make the process better, and I'd argue the final product better as well. Enjoy a few of the lovely people that have come into my life.

School Tour Company Advertisement

2018

This film quickly captures the experience of the Department of Dance School Tour Company 2018. This company was the project of dance MFA student Angelica Bell. I was lucky enough to be cast, and aside from performing I served as the Sound Technician and Photo/Video Documenter. I have to thank the entire company for helping me film as well as being so friendly to the camera!

Stomping Ground

2017

I created this dance film in the Spring semester of my freshman year as an assignment for my Creative Technologies class. I am still proud of the work I was able to produce as a freshman looking back on all of the experiences and lessons I have put under my belt since then.
