Megan Wurtz is a 24-year-old performer and creator from Buffalo, NY. She graduated from the Department of Dance at The Ohio State University in May 2020 with a B.F.A. in Dance, Magna Cum Laude, followed by her B.S.B.A. in Business with a specialization in Marketing, Magna Cum Laude, from the Fisher College of Business in December 2020.
 
Her undergraduate focuses included performance and rehearsal processes, as well as creative technologies and dance film. These included auditioning for and being cast in department performances, performing with the Dance Denmark: Danish American Performing Art & Cultural Exchange 2019 study abroad program, and taking Creative Technology and two levels of Dance Film courses, and was concluded with a senior thesis project which focused on various choreographic processes in coordination with the creation of dance on film that is to be shown in time with live stage performance. Having received grant funding for the project, Ms. Wurtz collaborated with Jennifer Golonka as a choreographer, and Abby Koskinas as videographer.

In June of 2021, Ms. Wurtz began her contract as a Company Apprentice with Deeply Rooted Dance Theater in Chicago, IL and is so thankful for the opportunity to begin her professional career. In her time so far with the company, she has gotten to train with the company in classes and rehearsals. She has performed with the company as part of the Black Edition film project to be released in February 2022, and at the Auditorium Theater as a part of the company's 25th Anniversary celebration in October 2021. Being a part of Goshen in Roots & Wings was a blessing in so many ways, being able to perform a range of choreographers' works and collaborate with Grammy-Award-winning producer, composer, and gospel artist Donald Lawrence along with every singer that also filled the stage with their talents and energy.
 
Ms. Wurtz was raised dancing at Karyn Kelly Dance Center, as well as with Classical Ballet of WNY and Infinity Dance Project Inc. Pre-Professional Company. Through experiences at intensives, workshops, and higher education, Wurtz has performed in pieces by Yin Yue, Jennifer Golonka, Edward Taketa, John Lehrer, Alexandra Stilianos, Calder White, Sofie Clemmensen, Todd Eckert, Alison Mixon, and Ahmad Simmons, as well as restaged work by Merce Cunningham.
 
Ms. Wurtz has experience teaching and choreographing at Karyn Kelly Dance Center, which has included classes online via Zoom. Her teaching experience also includes Classical Ballet of WNY, Conservatory for the Ballet Arts Summer Intensive, the Dance Denmark study abroad program, and the OSU Department of Dance School Tour Company 2018. While completing her degree in marketing, the on-campus student org Dance Connection provided her with the chance to choreograph a piece over Zoom during the length of the semester.
 
Closely tying together studies in marketing and dance, Ms. Wurtz has found another layer to her creative passions with creative technologies and film. Technology work experiences include website creation for Jennifer Golonka as well as video & photo documentation of Golonka's work at the Conservatory for the Ballet Arts summer intensive, participating in the first ever Nike Project Move cohort serving the OSU campus in collaboration with Nike World Headquarters in Beaverton, OR, fulfilling the roll of Film Documentation Technician for the Dance Denmark study abroad program, and fulfilling the rolls of Film and Sound Technician for the OSU Department of Dance School Tour Company 2018. This has been greatly supported by her collegiate courses and experiences in Marketing, and she looks forward to seeing how her two passions can come together throughout her career.
